We are living in busy and overwhelming times. It can be difficult to stay positive in spite of all of the depressing news around the world, the overt ignorance and prejudice that have been resurrected by the populism that has resurged in the west. It can feel like the world is regressing in real time after years of progress. If you find you are struggling to stay positive, here are a 10 ways how you can improve your energy and stay positive:
Mentally Reframe The Situation
How you think of a difficult situation is everything. Instead of seeing yourself as a victim of your circumstances, “why do bad things keep happening to me?” “why can’t I catch a break?” “Why do I have the worst luck?” consider your role in your circumstances. What can you control? What can you improve? Take back control of the situation by posing these questions, and figuring out steps you can take to change your circumstances. Reframing and subsequently taking action will make you feel less anxious and will increase your self-confidence.
Listen to Motivational Speakers Any Chance You Get.
As negativities and challenges arise, our motivation wanes out and we begin to doubt if we could ever achieve our goals.
To continue staying positive and inspired, I go to youtube and watch my favorite motivational speakers every single day, and they never fail to light a fire under my butt.
Listening to Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, Earl Nightingale, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, and other international speakers has brought dramatic changes to my life.
I recommend listening to them any chance you get; but the best times are in the morning after you wake up (so you could start your day right) and in the evening before you go to sleep (so your subconscious could better “absorb” the principles you’ve learned).
Surround Yourself With Positive People
When life and work are stressful, it can be hard to stay positive on your own, and if you surround yourself with negative people not only will they diminish any positive thinking, but they will compound your negativity. In times like these when the news is dark and often all-consuming, surrounding yourself with positive people who bring out the best in you and your train of thought is good for your mental health and your soul. Make an intention to surround yourself with joyful, happy people during the day.
Live A Healthy Life.
Negative people and things can stress you out of your wits and weaken your immune system, so live as healthy as you can to stay resilient in the face of pessimism.
Here are some suggestions:
– Eat organic fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Avoid processed and sugary foods.
– Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily.
– Exercise at least 5 hours spread throughout the week.
– Practice breathing exercises.
– Spend quiet time meditating.
Follow simple healthy habits to gain a positive mental, emotional, and physical advantage as you overcome each negativity that comes your way.
Ask Yourself The Right Questions.
This is the simplest but perhaps also the most important habit I have discovered in adopting an optimistic mindset. The questions we ask ourselves day in and day out when we wind up in negative, difficult or uncertain situations make all the difference in our life.
A pessimist might ask him/herself questions like:
“Why did this happen to me?”
“Why do bad things happen to me all the time?”
But an optimist asks him/herself the questions that open up the mind to new viewpoints and possibilities. A few of my favorite questions for finding the optimistic perspective are:
“What is one good thing about this situation?”
“What can I learn from this situation?”
“What is one small step I can take today to start solving this situation?”
Relax Your Body
It’s natural when you first wake up to think you feel relaxed but you might not actually be relaxed. We tense up at night and we might still be tense when we begin to wake up. Consciously bring your body to a state of complete relaxation.
- Keep a Gratitude Journal. Write down anything large or small that makes you smile, including terrific achievements, touching moments and great relationships.
Just do it by asking one or more of these questions:
What can I be grateful for in my life today?
Who are 3 people that I can be grateful to have in my life and why?
What are 3 things I can be grateful for about myself?
Just spend 60 seconds or a few minutes during your day with answering one of these questions to reap the wonderful benefits.
Focus on Solutions.
A sure way to feel more negative about a situation is to sit around and do nothing about it. Instead, use the questions I shared in step one and open up your mind to the possibilities of the situation you are in.
If you have trouble to get started with taking action, ask yourself: What is one small step I can take today to get the ball rolling?
Waking up the body is different for everyone. Some bodies and minds wake up more quickly than others, but a great way to enter the present is with an intention to meditate. If thoughts are running amok, try to clear your mind. Slowly roll out of bed and sit on a pillow, back against the wall and spend time (at the beginning 2 – 5 minutes) sitting quietly.
- Stay Present and Follow Your Passion
Make an intention to stay present during the day. If you think future or past thoughts, reconnect with the present moment. The power of the day is in the now. By staying present, follow your passion. Do something you feel excited about. Volunteer for a cause you believe in or sign up for a class to learn something new. Several studies have shown that people who feel a sense of meaning in their life are healthier, live longer and have greater life satisfaction.
Practice these 10 ways to wake up happy and stay positive, stress free, and energized with creative mind all day every day. Focus on positives and be grateful for all the experiences in your life. It’s easy to focus on what is going wrong in your life and in the world, especially when it feels like so few things are going well. Be grateful for all of the good people in your life, and always have hope that things will get better, and that you will do everything in your power to make them so.
